Ask about the actual boat’s toilet, not just its category
A catamaran, speedboat or private charter label does not establish the facilities of the assigned vessel. Ask whether there is an enclosed toilet, whether guests may use it during the relevant parts of the trip, and how they reach it. Do not interpret a larger boat as automatic confirmation.
If toilet access is essential, make that a booking requirement rather than a last-minute request at boarding. Ask what happens if the assigned boat changes. A response about toilets at lunch does not answer the separate question about the boat journey.
Compare the arrangement, not an assumed level of comfort
| Option | What the label establishes | What to confirm |
|---|---|---|
| Saona Classic | A shared-tour option; the category does not specify an assigned boat’s toilet or cover. | The actual vessel, usable toilet, shore opportunities and changing/privacy arrangements. |
| Saona Premium | The public product page describes a speedboat and lunch, not a detailed facilities guarantee. | Toilet arrangements on boat and shore, changing space, shade and any seating conditions. |
| Private boat | A quotation for an agreed boat and plan, not automatic facilities or accessibility. | Required amenities in writing, a feasible route, transfer details and the total group price. |
Check shore facilities for each planned stop
Confirm which named stop provides the proposed toilet opportunity and whether that facility is available to your group. Ask about access, possible charges and handwashing, rather than assuming a village visit or included lunch means a public bathroom is available. An island-wide yes or no is not a useful substitute for a specific arrangement.
If relevant, ask about steps, walking distance from the landing and the route back to the boat. Toilet paper, soap, running water and showers are separate details to verify. We have not inspected or confirmed a particular toilet or its condition for your date.
Prepare for changing without assuming a cabin
The cana.tours Premium packing list recommends wearing swimwear under clothes and bringing dry clothes and a towel. That is preparation advice, not a statement that a private changing cubicle is included. If you need an enclosed space, ask where it is and when you can use it.
A changing poncho or suitable cover-up can reduce how much changing you need to do, but it is not a guarantee of privacy or permission to change anywhere. Keep wet clothing separate from dry belongings, respect public areas and take your rubbish away. Ask separately about showers if they matter to you.
Five questions to send before booking
- Does our assigned boat have a usable enclosed toilet, and is a transfer toilet break planned?
- Which shore stop offers toilet access, with what walking route, charges and handwashing facilities?
- Is there a private place to change, and are showers available or not confirmed?
- What boat cover, shore shade and seating are included, and what is subject to availability?
- Can the plan meet our children’s or mobility needs, and what happens if the boat or route changes?
Distinguish palm shade, boat cover and reserved seating
Natural shade changes with the sun and the space available. A palm-lined beach does not promise a lounger, umbrella or shaded seat for your party. Ask whether seating or shelter is included, shared or subject to availability, and whether a particular shaded place can actually be confirmed.
The cana.tours page specifically warns of no shade at the natural pool. Do not plan around finding a shaded beach seat during an open-water stop. Ask about the assigned boat’s cover and when it can be used, and pack your own sun hat, suitable covering and sun protection rather than relying only on the scenery.
Include transfers and individual needs in the plan
LoveSaona shared tours board in Bayahíbe; guests staying elsewhere travel there by transfer. Ask whether any toilet break is planned on your route and do not assume the transfer vehicle has a bathroom. Confirm collection and return arrangements without building the day around an unverified timetable.
Tell us about children, mobility limitations or a need for frequent toilet access before booking. A private enquiry can discuss a different plan, but it does not automatically supply an accessible toilet, extra stops or a particular boat. Private departures from Marina Casa de Campo may be requested at premium prices; all relevant arrangements still need confirmation.
Practical questions about your island day
Do all Saona boats have toilets?
Do not assume so. Ask about the assigned vessel and when its toilet can be used. The words catamaran, speedboat or private do not confirm the equipment of a specific boat.
Are changing rooms or showers guaranteed?
No universal guarantee is established by the sources checked here. Confirm the actual stop, access and privacy. Wearing swimwear under clothes helps preparation but does not supply a changing room.
Does Premium include a reserved shaded lounger?
Do not infer that from the product name, beach photos or included lunch. Ask separately about shelter, seating, charges and availability for your group.
What if toilet access or step-free access is essential?
Explain the requirement before booking and ask for a specific response about boat, landing and shore facilities. A general family-friendly or private-tour description is not an accessibility confirmation.
Sources and scope
Sources checked on 25 October 2026. The cana.tours Premium page supplies packing advice and the natural-pool shade warning; the tourism ministry describes Saona and its stops. Neither is a date-specific inspection of toilets, changing rooms or seating. Absence of facility details does not prove that a facility is absent. The checklists are editorial planning advice.
